Money and Gay Abandon
We need to hire rehearsal space, buy music, and pay the musical director and accompanist. In addition, we have paid people to arrange music for us, subsidised costumes and travel arrangements, paid for recording studios, and so on. It all costs money!
Subscriptions
Members of Gay Abandon pay a subscription. The cost per member is currently:
- £40 per term (£10 per month) for most people
- £30 per term (£7.50 per month) for people on low incomes
- £20 per term (£5 per month) for full-time students and people who are on income support or basic state pension, and
- free for people paying a carer and for disabled members who need to pay taxi fares.
Subs are paid either termly or (preferably) by standing order monthly. (Prices correct 02/06/2007)
Additional costs
In addition to subs, you'll be asked for a deposit (currently £5-10 depending on income) for sheet music, and you'll be expected to contribute towards the cost of your costume. When we travel, we often subsidise the cost, but members usually have to make a contribution.
Financial support
We aim to to make the choir accessible to anybody, regardless of their ability to pay. We operate concessionary rates for people on low incomes. We try to subsidise costs where possible. And we fund raise, when necessary, to help cover costs.
Fundraising
As a member of Gay Abandon, we hope that you will help out with fund-raising efforts to keep the costs to individual members down. This might be performing at paying gigs, helping out with table-top sales or discos, or any other grand plans you can think of.
Sponsorship
We're also open to offers of financial help from any individuals or business that might want to sponsor us. Please contact us to discuss this!
